Senior ADF O cer
As the ABXO-AMB, and on behalf
of the Senior ADF O cer, AIRCDRE
'Noddy' Sawade, I'd like to both
welcome back all returning sta
and welcome those new personnel
posted to RAAF Amberley.
I trust you all had an enjoyable and relaxing break with
family and friends over the operational stand-down period.
2010 already appears to be lining up to be as busy as
last year, with many changes ahead including the arrival
of Super Hornet and KC-30A as well as an increased Army
presence with 21 Construction Squadron and 6 Engineering
Support Regiment marching-in at the end of the year.
January 26th will see RAAF Amberley personnel taking the
lead in the tri-Service, Australia Day Royal Guard of Honour
and Flag raising ceremony at South Bank.
On 23rd February, Caribou A04-236 will be inducted into
the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage Centre.
Late March will see the arrival of 1SQN's rst ight of Super
Hornet aircraft and Air Force Week activities.
Later in the year we will welcome the rst of the KC-30A
aircraft to be home based here. The year ends with the
o cial opening of the RAAF Amberley Aviation Heritage
Centre and the 'end of an era' retirement activities for our
much loved F-111s.
In between will be the usual 'work-ups' for exercises and
operational activities. The one thing that is constant is that
we can all look forward to an interesting year ahead and
no-one will have the opportunity to get bored.
CO 9th Battalion
I would like to take this opportunity
to welcome both the returning and the
newly arrived members and families of
the 9th Force Support Battalion.
I hope everyone had a safe and
enjoyable break over the Christmas and New Year period
and am looking forward to a busy and challenging year.
As a new arrival to the area myself, I too can appreciate
the challenges of moving into a new posting, both for the
members and their family.
I am sure the returning members can attest, the facilities at
RAAF Amberley and within Ipswich in general, are excellent.
I was pleased to note that although this Battalion is an
Army unit and relatively new to the Ipswich area that
members and the families have assimilated well into the
local community and to life on a RAAF Base.
This assimilation has been aided by the RAAF and local
community, so to all involved thanks.
2010 will be both challenging and rewarding at the 9th
Force Support Battalion.
With a mix of unit and ADF exercises, members will nd it
both a challenging and ful lling experience.
As always, the Battalion will continue to integrate and
interact with the wider Defence network and I am certain
the Battalion will both enrich and bene t from the Ipswich
Once again, I welcome the members and their families to
the 9th Force Support Battalion.
I look forward to working with you as a professional and
to interacting with you socially when the occasion presents
